When Susie first contacted us she had a domain that was Alps-specific and needed a strategy to develop the business so it could increase its visibility in both the Alps and other destinations.
This involved a move to a new domain, with a new website and a lot of complex functionality which resulted in a wide variety of technical issues that needed resolving once she came on board.
The site also lacked sufficient links to compete with other players in the industry, so establishing an approach to close the gap was also crucial to the campaign’s success.
When Undiscovered first came on board they were in the process of changing domain and launching a new site, so the first challenge was ensuring that was handled correctly.
As well as this, the complexity of the site’s functionality created numerous issues which harmed the site’s SEO performance so our initial audit following launch highlighted many issues that needed addressing.
This took time and a lot of work alongside the site’s developer to overcome the issues which took time and was undoubtedly frustrating for Susie as she struggled to see the benefit in the short term.
Alongside this we were running our PR activity which was aimed at gaining links and coverage on top-tier publications that would increase the visibility of the brand and also drive forward SEO performance.
We were also working on other approaches to gain links, which included writing guest posts on good quality travel blogs and partnerships with universities.
Given the technical challenges of the domain change and website move it took time to reap the rewards of the fantastic coverage we gained through the campaign.
However, Susie was great to work with throughout and persevered through the challenges and frustrations which resulted in the fantastic performance improvements we are now seeing.
The PR work has brought coverage in a huge variety of top-tier publications including national news, top-tier travel sites and trade outlets.
Our Igloo Challenge campaign was featured in Lonely Planet and the Telegraph amongst many other places, whilst our reactive press office work resulted in coverage in the Times and the Daily Mail. Our press release work brought links from Travel Weekly and iNews and many more.
All this work has resulted in organic traffic more than doubling the same time last year, and we are breaking on to page 1 for a wide variety of phrases with many more on page 2, illustrating the potential that is still to come.
Summary
Our work with Susie is a great example of perseverance and the challenges that can face an SEO campaign which doesn’t always result in immediate results. However, if you keep doing the right things and fixing the relevant issues you will come out the other side with great results and more sustainable traffic to your site that drives more business.
